Policy
Use the Policy screen to create and activate common policies for all vSmart controllers in the network or to create policies for vEdge routers.
Screen Elements
- Title bar.
- vSmart tab—Add policy for vSmart controllers in the network. When you first open the Policy screen, the vSmart tab is selected.
- vEdge tab—Add policy for vEdge routers in the network.
- Add Policy bar—On the right are two toggle buttons:
- Policy List displays a list of the policies you have created.
- Active Devices displays the current status of the vSmart controllers to which the policy is being applied.
- Filter criteria—Sort options drop-down and Search box, for a Contains or Match string.
- Policy table—To re-arrange the columns, drag the column title to the desired position.
Add a vSmart Policy
- In the vSmart tab, click Add Policy.
- In the Add Policy window:
- Enter a name and description for the policy. These fields are mandatory. Also, you cannot use any special characters in policy names.
- In the CLI Configuration text box, either copy and paste a policy, or click Select a File to upload a text file with policy details in it.
- Click Add.
- To apply the policy to all vSmart controllers in the network, activate the policy as described below.
Add a vEdge Policy
- In the vEdge tab, click Add Policy.
- In the Add Policy window:
- Enter a name and description for the policy. These fields are mandatory. Also, you cannot use any special characters in policy names.
- In the Policy Details text box, either copy and paste a policy, or click Select a File to upload a text file with policy details in it.
- To convert an actual configuration value to a variable, select the value and click Create Variable. Enter the variable name, and click Create Variable. You can also type the variable name directly, in the format {{variable-name}}; for example, {{hostname}}.
- Click Add.
- To apply the policy to a vEdge router in the network, include it in the device template using the Configuration ► Templates screen.
View a Policy
- In the vSmart or vEdge tab, select a policy.
- Click the More Actions icon to the right of the column and click View.
Edit a Policy
- In the vSmart or vEdge tab, select a policy.
- Click the More Actions icon to the right of the column and click Edit.
- In the Edit Policy window, edit the policy.
- Click Update.
Delete a Policy
- In the vSmart or vEdge tab, select a policy.
- Click the More Actions icon to the right of the column and click Delete.
- Click OK to confirm deletion of the policy.
Activate a Policy on vSmart Controllers
- In the vSmart tab, select a policy.
- Click the More Actions icon to the right of the column and click Activate.
- In the Activate Policy window, click Activate to push the policy to all vSmart controllers in the network.
- Click OK to confirm activation of the policy on all vSmart controllers.
Deactivate a Policy on vSmart Controllers
- In the vSmart tab, select a policy.
- Click the More Actions icon to the right of the column and click Deactivate.
- In the Deactivate Policy window, click Deactivate.
